According to the National Canine Research Council the following factors directly contribute to predominantly fatal dog attacks:
1.Sex of a dog
2.Reproductive status of the dog
3.Chained or unrestrained dogs
4.Family dog versus resident dog
5.Dogs obtained for protection, guarding, fighting or image enhancement
6.Multiple dogs and pack mentality
7.Unsupervised children
8.Breed of dog: The breed of dog is another contributory factor in fatal dog attacks. While breed may be a factor in attacks, it is not the cause for an attack. While Pit Bulls and Rottweilers are responsible for a significant amount of fatal attacks in recent years, one cannot conclude that an attack occurred simply as a result of the breed of dog; no more than we can conclude that a fatal attack occurred simply because the dog was an intact male, or chained, or a because a child was left unsupervised with a dog(s).
9. Irresponsible owners and gross negligence
In many of the opinions for the "Beast" side of this debate, people have referenced how another breed would not have the strength to "kill". What about the Pomeranian that killed a 6 week old baby girl? Does anyone remember that story? Probably not but I am providing a link for it. Any dog can kill.ANY DOG. So do we ban all breeds? Eradicate all of them? I am hoping that there are enough intelligent, caring people in the world who see the problem for what it really is.the people who own the dogs, not the dogs themselves.
BLAME THE DEED, NOT THE BREED.
