How is it that one TV show can have such a magnetism, such an addictive quality that it gains cult status in just a couple of years? Could the writers and producers have known the show would not only sweep a nation, but sweep an entire globe of fans off of their feet? I certainly did not see it coming. I can still remember the original television trailers for the first season before it began. I completely misjudged the show. I thought, "Great, one more show to waste space on prime time." This was not so.

I began to hear all the talk. People were either die hard fans or disgusted scorners of the show. There wasn't anyone who just kinda liked it. The show spawned either passion or loathing. So, I dove into the first season of LOST on DVD, rented through a great company called NetFlix. At the end of the first episode, I knew I was in love with the show, and there was no going back. I was converted to a true Lostie. I think there are some very important aspects to this show that are what make it so good (as if "good" is a worthy enough word for it).

The Philosophy
There is a deep concept being woven throughout this story, and we catch on to it rather quickly in the first season: The Connectivity Theory. This theory states that all people in the world can be connected (on average) by a chain of six other people. This theory carries a ton of weight, for if it's true, it means that our every action affects many people. It has a ripple effect, so to speak. And we see it happening right away in LOST; someone's actions in one country are affecting someone in anther. A con-artists lies affect a perfect stranger that he's never met.

The Superstition
We've got the numbers memorized. Many of us have begun to use them as passwords and lottery numbers (unless of course we really believe that they are cursed.) I don't even need to tell you, you're already quoting them to yourself. LOST creates a sort of pseudo-religion around these numbers, and the writers also find ways to sneak in "easter eggs" for us to find by putting the numbers randomly on items in the show. Or is it random? It seems that in LOST, everything matters, nothing is coincidental.

The Humanity
I have never watched a show that I felt such an intimate connection with the characters. I have laughed with and cried with the characters to a point that I feel that I am really on this journey with them. And I realize that I have a deep connection to these people and this story. There have been times in my life that I have
