In the area I live in, you fall into two camps: Vikings or Packers. My family has spent our lives supporting the Vikings through thick and thin, but we sure wish there was a little less thin. This is what it is like to be a Minnesota Viking Fan.
1. You can always find team jerseys on sale in the sports shops on sale cheap...just don't object to living with the name of a player that is no longer a Viking on your back. One year, a player is a hero, the next, so long.
2) You think twice about leaving the house in your Vikings sweatshirt, but you decide to wear it anyway because when people harass you about it, you can say you purchased it during the 15-1 season.
3) When your son becomes a teenager, the Randy Moss Beanie Baby Bear becomes garage sale fodder and much of his other Vikings treasures will be stored in the attic, with the hope in mind that maybe next year will be their year, so he might want to hang on to it.
4)Being a Vikings fan means that you hate to watch the game, but you just can't help yourself. You just have to sneak a peak. But you don't want to watch for long because you think maybe in the cosmic universe of luck that your watching the games is the cause for the losses.
5) You joined in the scathing complaints about the antics of Randy Moss, but now wish the team had just a little of the magic that it had when he was there.
It isn't easy being a Viking's fan, but it can be fun. I am hoping that we will be able to take the Viking blankets, pillows and bobble heads out this year. It would be nice to be able to display a little purple pride on game day. And maybe if they do really well, the Vikings window cling and outdoor flag will fly with the golden horns again.
