When it comes to buying a laptop computer the first thing that one will notice is the huge degree of price variation. Prices on laptops can range anywhere from three hundred to two thousand dollars. Walk into any retail store and they will try to start you with an expensive model. The sales associate will give many reasons why the expensive laptop is better. The fact of the matter is that this is not always the case. Many midrange to cheap laptops have more than enough power for the average user. Then question then becomes what is the best price range to buy in? Furthermore where is the best place to find laptops in that price range?
The best price range for laptops for the average home user is between four and eight hundred dollars. Laptops in this price range will generally give the user the best performance for their dollar. The technical specifications to watch for are a processor that is not only fast but will give the best battery life possible. 512 MB of ram will be sufficient but at least a gig would be preferable. Also make sure that the hard drive will be big enough for whatever ones needs will be. Especially if alot of media will be stored on the laptop.
When searching for a laptop the best thing to do is to start shopping around online. Check the major brands websites to get a general idea of pricing. Start to pick out features that are wanted for sure. Clip ads from the Sunday paper and visit the retail stores. Be prepared to be bombarded with disinformation from sales associates. After a few weeks of shopping start to make a final decision on exactly what one is looking for. Shop for that particular computer at online retailers such as Ebay, Newegg and Zip zoom fly. Retail stores such as Costco, Office Depot and Circuit City tend to have the best priced laptops with the most features. If one is looking for a super cheap laptop then E-bay will probably be the best bet. However when buying from ebay expect things to be used and a little worn down.
