Memoirs: Personal experiences with the healing power of dogs

K9 was my best friend my soul mate and I loved him to bits, he was usually called K and was stillborn so his first breath was mine. Yes my mouth to his mouth, my hubby wouldn't kiss me for a week.

K's mum was my Border Collie Prushire (normally called Pru and his dad was my best friends French short haired Alsatian Dusty, he had the brains of the Border Collie and looked like a small short haired Alsatian, and he really was the most handsome little man.

Prushire was quite a little madam, she loved going out in the breakdown truck with us, as we ran a 24 Hr Recovery Service back then, Pru was a real truck dog, she just loved being in the trucks and she would desert anyone to go in one. After having her litter we had to take the puppies out in the truck in a cardboard box or Pru would desert them and they would have all died. I remember fondly sitting in the truck with the box full of puppies at my feet, K was of course normally in my arms unless Pru was feeding them in the box or I was driving the truck, the reactions of customers when being given a lift in the truck was hilarious, but when it is your own business you can break all the normal rules!

When I lost my twelve year old daughter K saved me from going insane, he was the most loving, intelligent and giving dog ever and he stayed at my side or on my lap twenty four seven after I lost my daughter, the only times that K wasn't with me was when he went out for a run and took off to go and lye on my daughters grave, God only knows how he found her grave, but he knew I expect by instinct where it was.

I lost K when he was fourteen year of age, I am sure that he died partly from a broken heart through grieving with me after losing my daughter, he is buried in my field and I visit him often, K is one dog who will be waiting for me when I leave this place we were totally loyal to each other, until then K will live on in my heart forever.
