Novel excerpts: Romance

"Finally! A chance to get out of the academy, thanks for inviting me on a picnic Jin!" Tamika laughed as we both walked down the quiet sunlit path to the nearby village. The air was cool and crisp, the sun shone brightly over a crystal clear blue sky, not a cloud in sight.

It was a Friday evening, and as we had nothing better to do after our training regime, had opted to go into town and have a picnic by the lake. It was the middle of autumn and all the nearby trees were alight with an assortment of beautiful colors, the leaves falling gently, all so very serene. As we approached the wrought iron gates into town, we took a slight detour so we could setup our picnic near the waters edge of the nearby lake.

This new path was slightly longer, but well worth it, as bright patches of flowers still grew in the many gardens overlooked by the parks great oak trees. They must have been well tended too, because their were still a lot of spring time flowers. My favorite being the orange tiger lily, I reached over and picked a blossom out of the patch and gently placed it in Tamika's hair.
"Thank you Jin!" Tamika chimed happily as we continued our walk to the lake down our pleasant detour.

After arriving at the lake, we looked for a good spot to settle down in, and picked one next to the playground so we could watch the children play. I figured it was a good spot, as we both love children. We set up our blanket and sat down to enjoy our meal, relaxing to the sounds of laughter from the children in the nearby trees. Watching the ducks swim around in the lake. Throwing bits and pieces of food at each other. All so very serene. I looked over at Tamika and seemed to notice for the first time just how beautiful her emerald green eyes were. The light shining radiantly off her jet black hair seemed to generate an aura over her entire body.

She looked up at me, smiling. I looked back into her eyes as she looked into mine and I saw her blush. Tamika? Blush? An outgoing person like her? Not once have I ever known her to be embarrassed, but I wasn't thinking about that, all I could think about was how hard my heart was hammering in my chest. I could hardly breath. I thought I started to blush too as I saw her move in close to me. I nearly stopped breathing when I moved my hand across the picnic blanket and pulled her towards me...
