How to prepare a child for the school bus

Children ride school buses generally because of a great distance between their home and the school they attend, there is unavailability of a person to transport them, or they just enjoy riding with their friends. Surprisingly, with more and more vehicles coming into the market, it seems to me that school buses were not as popular as those during the middle 20th century. Although I have never traveled to and from school in a long, yellow bus other than on field trips, I actually do know some of the basics of riding in those vehicles. For the most part, school buses are safe, regarding to both drivers controlling them and the children's behavior. However, I have seem a few accidents on television that were associated with school buses - and inside them, too. For keeping any accidents away at bay, I have just a few tips for children that will allow them to enjoy taking a ride in the bus.

In both cities and towns, there are a variety of school bus stops for children to wait during the morning. Their destinations are based on areas of their residence. Some bus stops can be as close to three blocks away! Children venturing out when the sky is barely light should use bright clothing for drivers to see. They should also stay in lighted areas and at corners. The children should never be in the street; on a sidewalk or curb is the best. Also, especially to the more younger kids, they need not to speak to any strangers that walk by or near them.

In the school bus itself, their are rules and guidelines that perform just as well as those in school environments. Children must not stand in the aisle while the bus is in motion. Many school buses restrict usages of food and drinks, as well as live animals. Windows should not be opened without permission. If a child gets a little warm, it may be a solution if he sits close to the aisle for more open air. If the windows are open, the children are asked not to throw anything out from them. One of the most problematic issues on school buses is the noise volume. Although not tempting, children should talk at a minimum voice level so they will not distract the driver. Also, foul language and other forms of inappropriate sayings must be prohibited while riding in the bus.

Understanding these rules for the child riding in a school bus for the very first time will allow him to enjoy riding it safely. Did I even mention that riding in a school bus is a privilege as well? This means parents can trust their children when they are not riding in traditional cars and trucks. Just following the bus' rules will earn independence for not only the children's parents; for themselves as well.
