Absolutely not! How many of us despised gym class? How we hated to participate in certain events. Remember being embarrassed when it was time for the mile test? What about the pull up test? My fondness memories of gym were hanging on to the sit up bar for dear life struggling just to do one pull up.Thinking maybe if I hung there long enough I would somehow gain enough strength to do just one.Back when I was a scrawny pimple faced adolescent I loathed gym class.Fast forward 10 years down the road I'm a twenty something young man who works out 4 times a week and loves it.Lifting weights and working out is something you want to do.Working out makes me feel awesome because I know what it does for me .How would I of felt about it ten years ago lets just say I would have missed every gym class.

Who would teach the students the proper ways to lift? Would there be enough equipment for all the students to use? Would there be designated stations for different weight classes? These are just some of the questions that would have to be addressed .Now its a know fact that physical activity stimulates the heart and helps your muscles produce oxygen, and helps in the loss of weight. In todays society where three out of five children are overweight its important that they have some sort of physical fitness.Perhaps before we consider making weight lifting compulsory we should think of providing our students with a proper diet. The lunches being served in todays schools are not helping the overweight issues plaguing our youth.

Now if there was a weightlifting class that was not mandatory then perhaps the students would give it a try. Providing there was a proper instructor there to chaperone and make sure things were done correctly. If the "non mandatory" class was a success maybe more students would consider trying it.But forcing students to do something without the proper equipment and instruction is unsafe.
