Poetry: Struggle

Another Blessed Day

I've spent the better half of my life
living on these crack filled streets
I don't complain mind you, just wish
I didn't have these holes in the
bottom of my soles, then I could better
cover my feet to protect them from the
bitter cold.

When night comes I find a spot close
to a tall building to block the chill
of the nights wind.
There, I bed down with newspaper as
my sheets. It gives me heat.

Still I don't complain.

Come morning, I'll search for something to eat
something that will hit the spot,
doesn't have to be much, just hope it's hot,
so these hunger pains will stop.

Strangers pass me by as I wander
from place to place
I see the looks on their faces
some stare at me with sadness
others look at me with disdain.

Still I don't complain.

I hold my head high and walk with dignity,
and thank God for Another Blessed Day.
