Taken from my diary: April 2007

Our 8 year old granddaughter always spends the week end with her grandparents. Yes, we are her grandparents but she insists on calling us Bill and Wen.

The Saturday morning conversation went something like this as we sat waiting for our morning cup of tea in bed, courtesy of Bill.

"Wen, where did you and Bill meet?"

"At the church youth club Sophie, why?"

"Did you phone each other to chat on your mobile phones all the time?"

"No Sophie, we didn't have mobile phones in those days love."

"Oh! So you phoned from your home phone all the time?"

"No love, I didn't have a home phone."

"Did Bill have a phone?"

"Yes, but not many homes had phones then."

"So, how did you arrange to meet again Wen?"

"We would arrange our next date when we were together or, we would write letters to each other."

"Oh! I know," she exclaimed excitedly! "Bill sent his pigeon with a message saying when he wanted to meet again!"
