Food has the power to heal, but it can also be toxic. The key is in recognizing which foods, and in which combinations, yield the most therapeutic results. In fact, never before has the idiom "You are what you eat" rung so true, specifically in modern days.
Indeed, some of the most credible and useful scientific health advances of the past fifteen years or so have been in the field of nutrition. These days, with the vast array of edible options we are presented with at any given moment, it is important to know which foods to best feed your body, mind, and soul.
There are several reasons that may necessitate a person to seek out a nutritionist's advice. It may be to quell an on-going allergic reaction, or it may be as serious as cancer prevention. As well, if you have experienced dramatic weight loss or gain, or if your current eating habits manifest themselves in the form of stress, skin disorders, general fatigue, or lack of cardiovascular health (read: heart problems), it is likely in your best interest to elicit the advice of a nutritionist.
A nutritionist can help personalize a diet approach that works specifically for your needs. You may even simply wish to improve your overall health and immunity. But know that there are many nutritional therapists who actually specialize in specific areas, such as the ones mentioned above.
Every body is different, and thus, nutritional plans will vary from person to person; working with a nutritionist can not only help ward off any bodily ills, but prevent them in the first place.
Whether it be abstaining from soy products (breast cancer patients - as soy mimics the body's own estrogen production), cutting out white carbs (to boost energy and unclog your inner pipes), taking an omega-3 supplement (to improve joint mobility, increase concentration and boost mood) or the inclusion of more fruits and vegetables to up the body's general immunity, there are many paths to take to ensure that you are living at your optimum level of health and well-being.
After all - whether you look at it literally or figuratively, the phrase "You are what you eat" should undoubtedly refer to a colorful salad, rather than a Big Mac.
