Labor should honor US workers. That was the purpose of the bill President Grover Cleveland, signed into effect in 1894. However 113 years later, many men and women still work on the first Monday of every September, known as Labor Day. Unless your fourtente enough to have a Federal or state job. It's up to your employer whether you will get the day off.
Which is why it is any easy enough debate for honoring workers or the end of summer. Labor day has become more of an end of the summer bash instead of it's original intent to honor the American working class people.
Understandably certain professions can't always have labor day off. Doctors, nurses, Police Officers, Fire fighters and many more people who choose to enter the job field of "serving others."
So I ask you what is the sense in still having Labor day? How do parades, festivals, picnics and parties show honor to US workers? If you want to honor a working give them the day off and serve them a steak dinner, not a hot dog!
