The mornings start with "Mom, i don't fell good." Then they progress to almost missing the bus and forgetting his lunch. What do all of these things add up to in my household? It means that it is gym day. Gym day is one that causes terror in the mind of my 12 year old son. My child is the smallest in his glass and unfortunately a little on the nerdy side. His lack of coordination causes him to be teased and boys at his age can be very intimidating.

Handling this issue is not an easy thing, One of the first things that we did is to explain that he has to go and he has to participate. Hate to say it but life is only going to get harder. So you have to keep working at it. Then we spent time with him, teaching him games that he really didn't have an interest in but he wanted to fit in. We also encouraged him to be careful in who he tried to approach as a friend. I hate to say it but my son will never be one of the popular kids, but we have made a point of teaching him that he doesn't have to be. It is better to find friends who have your interests. It took him a long time realize that a few good fiends is better than being someone you aren't just to popular.
