Nutrition: How to stay healthy while pregnant

Good health and nutrition should be a part of every women's life well before conception begins. Pregnancy can be a wonderful time and every baby deserves the best healthy start to life.

When a woman becomes pregnant nutrition and staying healthy should be top of the agenda list. There are a few do's and a few dont's. Let's begin with the easy to do list.

1. Eat a balanced diet from all food groups.


2. Be sure to take a multi vitamin supplement with folate.
3. Exercise everyday, at a level you feel comfortable with.
4. Register and attend pre natal classes.
5. Make and keep monthly check ups with your doctor.
6. Limit stress, enjoy your pregnancy.
7. Give in to a craving or two, once in awhile.

Now here come the no no's.

1. No consumption of alcohol.
2. No smoking.
3. Stay away from junk food.
4. If you own a lovely cat, someone else needs to change the litter box.
5. Paint. Do not expose yourself and your precious baby to paint fumes.
6. Limit your intake of caffeine as well as tannins from tea.
7. Stressful activities, mental or physical are best avoided.

Of everything I have listed the most vital thing that you must pay attention to is your diet. Your baby is depending on you. Take this time to make and enjoy healthy relaxed meals. Fulfill that sugar craving by giving in to a rich calcium filled milkshake. Make sure you take a multi vitamin with folate, it has been proven to reduce the chances of birth defects occurring. Eat plenty of protein, for the B vitamins they contain. They will help you maintain energy. Increase your intake of iron. Lessens the chance of anemia appearing. Eat plenty of fiber rich and great tasting vegetables and fruit. Give your baby the best start you can, and keep yourself healthy while you are pregnant.
