Every mind sorts things in a particular way that makes sense only to that person. After observing and watching how my mind loves to take apart things and put them back whole, I realized why I could not read until the third grade. In Hawaii they taught only sight reading. Recognizing a whole word did not register in my brain. Once they taught phonics in grade three, reading made sense. Breaking a word down to parts did work. Observing people's personality traits and movements has been the only way I can recognize people.this apparently was the same thing for words. Seeing that words are building blocks made reading a possibility.
As a result of the slow start, reading has never been a fun thing for myself. Each child's mind sorts out the world in his own way and offering many roads into learning is crucial to reach all children. Let the child follow the road that shines brightest to him and he too will shine.
