Absolutely not! The human body is a complex structure, constantly engaged in a delicate and fluctuating balancing act of hormones, tissue and life force. To perform an operation that alters sexual organs is to interfere with those many components and the gestalt of that human being! To perform such an operation on an infant is an even greater assault on that being's strategic harmonious and inherent development.
The sexual organs are integral to the operation of the endocrine system and vise versa. Our bodies are fearfully and wonderfully built and should be respected as such throughout all stages of development, regardless of cultural gender norms.
In many cultures, intersex individuals were highly esteemed. If anything, their presence in our midst should be viewed as an opportunity to reevalute the gender norms of our culture. If the intersex individual is not fitting in, perhaps the fault is largely with the culture!
Any physician who would tamper with the particulars of life force expressing itself through an infant's biological being should seriously evaluate his own relationship to gender expression and to humanity at large. Physician, heal thyself!
