I really don't see how someone can write about this topic without first having been around a great deal of suffering. Mother Teresa has probably spoken most candidly about this subject, in her recently revealed writings, which I have found to be refreshingly honest. I just don't believe anyone who writes in any other way, but to speak of the hollow and cynical feelings which arise when confronted with some forms of suffering. Some clergymen whom I have heard have been particularly adept at pouring salt into the wounds, when they speak with great resonance and assurance that they, truly, understand the depths and ramifications of what you have suffered. They do not. Even their Bible says this, that each person's heart knows its own suffering, and that another person does not know it. But I do not suggest that you approach any of these entitled persons with these words, else you may find how little they actually love and respect you. Whenever you ask or are asked "why", keep a few fundamentals in mind - what can be explained may have multiple aspects (complexities) to it, our human minds are finite and those aspects to the answer which are beyond our created little minds are just that - beyond us; and then there is the aspect or component of an answer which you simply do not want to hear, unless you believe that the whole universe should cater to your sensibilities. That is something to think about.
