A to Z to getting website traffic

So you've got a website, it's all set up and running. What now? Well to have an effective website, you need a website with visitors. If no one sees your website, there's not really a point to it.

How do you get web traffic though?
The trick to getting website traffic is to be one of the top spots on major search engines. There are a number of other effective ways to gain website traffic, but this will get much your target audience to where they need to be: your website.

First, submit your website into as many search engines as possible. Be sure to get submitted to Google, Yahoo, MSN, Alexa, and other popular ones. Instructions for how to do so will be on the search engines website.

Then what?
Everyone wants to be the #1 spot on the Google search, but that's not always easy to come by. How does you rank go up on major search engines like Google, Yahoo, or MSN, or any other search engines for that matter?

Your website rank is the rank at which your website is listed in the search engine. A website with a #1 rank on the Google search engine, will be the first listed spot when searching for the relevant information the website holds. So of course, you want to get as close to that #1 rank as possible.

Google determines your rank mainly by how many other websites are linked to yours.

You can get other websites linked to yours by another method of gaining traffic: join web directories, affiliate with other websites, and if you are an active member of a message board, put it into your signature so it links back to you with every post. There are many different methods, just make sure other websites are linked to you.

If you have good and plentiful website content, other websites might link to you willingly, thus growing your rank.

A faster option to growing your website traffic is the not-so-cost-effective-way. You can always pay for website advertisement, but if you choose to do this, be sure to advertise on major news websites, search engines, or relevant content sites.

Keep your website up to date and full of content, and also pleasing to the eye. If you have a great website, more visitors will return, and will also be more likely to link you. Keep growing your site and it will grow in popularity!
