Being an esthetician i have definitely given and received my fair share of facials. There are many varieties of facials, but they all have the same basic foundation.
Facials are something everyone should have at the very least monthly, it is a deeper cleansing than you can get at home and the massage techniques used are great for improving tone and texture of the skin.
When you arrive for your facial your esthetician should have you fill out a questionnaire......sometimes they are lengthy BUT FILL THEM ALL IN AND BE HONEST~! just as a doctor would ask critical questions for your health..these questions act as a guide to understanding your skin and getting you the best facial possible.
Once the questionnaire is filled out referencing questions such as caffeine intake
(which can cause dehydration on the skin ) water intake, menstrual cycle, sensitivity to light and sunburns...etc...
ALL of these questions will ensure the right products are chosen to give you the best facial possible. questions or issues will be addressed at this time prior to the start of the facial.
You then change into a robe and relax onto the facial table, I keep the room dim and soft...music is played and relaxation is of the utmost importance.
First up the face is cleansed with a cleanser specific to your skin type...steam is used at this time as long as skin is not hyper sensitive.... massage techniques should always be done in an upward manner.
After cleansing an exfoliant is put on to help alleviate any dead skin cells sitting on the surface of the skin and increase cell turnover
In a classic European facial the massage is done now which helps muscle tone texture..increases blood flow..drains lymphatic...and is a great way to keep skin young...
finally a mask specific to your needs is placed on
followed by a cleansing.....Toner...Eye cream ... Moisturizer with sunscreen~
Guidance with skin products after facial is standard and is a great way to find out what you need.
