Short stories: Self-improvement

Over the years I have seen a lot of things that no one should ever see especially not someone as young as I am. You see I've dealt with things such as not having enough food all the time, never having anyone pay attention to me, and every type of abuse known. About a year and a half ago I was going through what I felt was my worst time ever...my divorce. Only six months after my divorce I hit rock bottom. I wokr in the IT industry and my new boss didn't think women belonged in my position so I was facing a demotion. I was living with a roommate who took and took and took from me without a second thought.

I remember the night I thought I'd finally had enough. I felt like I couldn't possibly deal with anymore. I sat down with my bottle of Captain Morgans Rum and a bottle of pills. I didn't write a note. I had way too much to say. Instead I decided I was going to take it all with me. I drank the whole bottle and took all of the pills. Only by the grace of God did I wake up the next day. I was told by doctors that there was no medical explanation for why I was alive.

It didn't matter to me how I survived it. I was ALIVE. For the first time in my life I really felt it too. After that I made changes. I moved out into the country to be with my horses. I quit that job where "women didn't belong" and found one that made me a lot more money.

I have had my moments where the past comes back and I hate my life but I have learned to tell myself one think "I am alive". No matter where you are in life being alive is definately better than being dead.

On those days when you don't want to wake up remind yourself "I am alive and I am breathing...today is already a good day". I promise it will put a smile on your face.
