The California lifestyle is one that's laid back and chock full of family fun. California wouldn't be the revered destination that it is today without it's myriad of different beaches each with its own distinct style and vibe. For many families California beaches offer an avalanche of fun in the sun. Orange County, southeast of Santa Ana, is a favored beach destination of families with children of all ages. Animated beach towns, colorful boardwalks, water sports, sandy beach activities and lots of down-time can all be found during an action-packed family getaway. 42 miles of impressive beaches flank the coastline of Orange County providing a wealth of choices for families with kids.
Balboa Beach
All things sand, surf and fun rule at Balboa Beach but the main attraction is the Balboa Fun Zone. Free concerts, family movie nights at Peninsula Pier, 99 cent Tuesdays and affordable short cruises draw crowds of families looking for fun on and away from the beach. With terrific facilities at the beach such as food and drink to satiate small and large appetites, showers and restrooms for ultimate convenience and professional lifeguards leaving parents resting assured, Balboa Beach is a great place to spend quality family time. Barbecue grills and picnic tables ensure families can bring along their own goods so there's something for even the most finicky little one.
Big Corona Beach
Corona Del Mar in Orange County is home to "Big Corona" where many families gather every year. Gentle waves and an on-duty lifeguard make this beach a pleasant spot for swimming and ensure you won't worry too much about the kids while they enjoy the warm waters. Head south for a few blocks and discover the tide pool spot, a favorite with children. Half a mile of sandy expanse leaves great opportunities for beach volleyball, building sand castles and just kicking back with the kids. Fishing is great at the beach and gives novice anglers a chance to make a memorable catch.
Seal Beach
A charming seaside community defines the appeal of Seal Beach. Old Town Seal Beach boasts quaint tree-lined avenues with an attractive beach and pier. Kite flying is a popular activity which provides hours of entertainment for kids. Main street is a nice spot for a stroll or grabbing a bite to eat. Restrooms and showers offer a place to wash out sandy bathing suits while an on-duty lifeguard extends a welcome peace of mind.
Bolsa Chica State Beach
Across from the well-fostered Bolsa Chica Wetlands lies Bolsa Chica State Beach. If hoping to extend your beach getaway for a few days this beach offers overnight camping perfect for families who love sleeping in the great outdoors. Recreational gear, numerous concessions stands and fire rings make this location great for all ages. Spacious and clean the surf is gentle enough for children but strong enough for body boarding. During the summer months lifeguards keep an eye out for everyone. Available parking makes access to the beach a breeze while showers and restrooms offer a place to clean up.
Capistrano Beach
A few miles south of Dana Point Harbor an abundance of activities can be enjoyed by families. Public restrooms, outdoor showers, seven volleyball courts and a basketball court provide a chance for families to have fun off and on the beach. Swimming and fishing are the main attraction at this beach where many kids make their first big catch, a memory that will be cherished for years. Fun beach supplies, fishing rentals, food and beverages can all be found at the concession building which is open during the summer months.
