Scar Tissue

I saw you glance at the scars that I wear.
At least you were kind enough not to stare.
Betcha you didn't know I wear these scars everywhere.
Yes some of these scars are self inflicted.
And some happened because I was neglected.
You see I'm scarred both physically and emotionally.
Each scar is in some way a memory.
Its a unique way of remembering.
See this one here its not so bad.
Its from the worst girlfriend I ever had.
She was a bitch so I let her go.
And weeks later these scars began to show.
See these three here.
That was a very bad year.
I lost my career,my grandfather, and my best friend.
Cut me so deep that I thought that was the end.
This tiny one behind my ear.
Truth or dare my sophomore year.
There are some scars that you cant see.
The ones that scarred me emotionally.
I saw something horrible when I was nine.
And its always in the back of my mind.
Things people called me , and all the bad things they said.
Scab over inside my head.
Sometimes the scabs will crack and bleed.
And awaken all the memories.
After a couple of days they begin to heal.
They remind me that I'm alive and that I can feel.
I'm sure I'm not the only one with scars on my body or in my mind.
But I'm not ashamed and refuse to hide.
Because everyone will have scars at some point in time.
If they in fact live their lives.
