Everyone has tried at some point in their lives to take up exercise because they feel they have to but most do it for the wrong reasons and this is why many fail to stick at it. Don't go into exercise for the wrong reason - to lose weight because at the end of the day unless you are really 100% committed this is not going to happen. How do I know this you ask yourselves, because for the last 14 years I have been teaching aerobics in the UK between 5 - 21 classes a week. Everyone wants to loose weight but this can't be your only goal. Too loose weight takes more than just exercise, it involves a healthy eating diet too and lets face it thats the hardest thing. How much will power does it take to say no to ones favourite foods! More than you all think and as we are only human at the end of the day we are all going to slip up sooner or later.
So how do we stick with an exercise program - firstly gyms are ok but if you enjoy working on your own then thats fine but the average person needs motivation and encouragement and these are the things missing when we go to the gym. Sure your gym instructors are about to assist but most will be involved with carrying out assessment etc. so unless you have paid out extra for a personal trainer you are not going to get the results you want.
My advice is to attend classes - before you join any though go along and watch different classes in action and make sure this is what you want. Have a word with the instructor after the class (not before as he/she won't have the time to talk to you before hand)explain that you are interested in joining the class and that is there anything that you should know before coming along. This would also be the right time to mention any health issues that you may have that might effect how well you do during the class. By visiting classes before hand this gives you an insight on what goes on, how the class flows, what sort of relationship the instructor has with his/her class (interaction). What the people are like who attend and as well as music being used and the sort of moves that are involved.
when you have decided on a class and the instructor has told you what you need to bring along, don't go out and buy new and expensive clothing. Instead invest in some decent supportive shoes and wear something that you feel comfortable/happy in. Its the shoes that are the important part as ones feet need to be looked after. Get to the class early and talk to some of those who attend. And don't be put off because
