The terrors of driving in Nigeria

You need a lot of hardwork and prayers to own a car as an average citizen in Nigeria. However, you need another special perseverance to be able to drive a car in some major cities in Nigeria, especially in Lagos, the most populated city in Africa.
The first category of crazy drivers you see on the roads are the public commercial bus drivers. They are a special breed of road users.Wild, uncultured, unrefine d,and ignorant. They are a perpetual danger and threat to their passengers, themselves and other commuters and vehicles on the roads.Majority of them epitomize lawlessness, chaos and barbarism. They neither obey any traffic regulations nor exercise restraints while on the wheels. They seems to be happy with the number of dents and damages they have received on their cars from reckless driving. They make themselves a notorious nuisance in traffic. They fight with their passengers, exchange fisticuffs among themselves and engage in hollow but heated arguments with private car owners everyday. They stop abruptly anywhere on the road and drive in any direction. They are a menace to other road users.

The second category are the owners of ramshackle or rickety cars that's looks doomed for the scrap-hill.The drivers of these rickety cars knew very well that they had nothing to loose.Whether you hit them or they hit you,you alone suffer the complete loss. They ought not to be on the road, and among them are usually the public transport operators. These caricatures of vehicles endanger the lifes of every other person on the road. They break down every minute and usually during heavy traffic congestions. Some of them could be described as "mobile coffins", having lived a maintenance free life. They often dictate the pace on the road and if you love your car,you have to run away from them before they hit you.
The trailers and other heavy duty vehicles are the third category of vehicles you will hate to see on Nigerian roads, they have been branded "terrorists" by many road users in Nigeria. They are known for being willfully wicked. You have to watch them constantly to avoid them but fate of congestion on the highways will always bring you close to them, that's then you will wish your car develop wings and fly over them, they move close to smaller cars menacingly and before the twinkle of an eye ,maximum damages have been done to your car. They have gained nothing and lost nothing.all these happen because they refuse to ply the lane dedicated to them instead they want to be on the faster lanes
