Wax Cupcakes
This is a recipe for was cupcakes we made with our troop last year. They were for our Valentine's Day meeting, and they turned out quite cute. There must be adult supervision, as hot wax should never be used by unsupervised children.
Things You Need:
Melting Wax (something that will dry white)
Colored Wax (or wax dye, we used purple)
Wax Fragrance (optional)
Heart Shaped Confetti
Metallic Cupcake Papers
Cupcake or Muffin Pan
A small fan
Fork
Spoon
Directions:
This is the adult job, melt the colored wax and fill each cupcake paper about full. Let each cake cool completely before the next step. This can be done ahead of time, and each cupcake can be removed from the pan after it has set.
The night of the meeting, (adult) melt the white wax and pour in a heat safe bowl. Turn the fan on low to blow on the wax. Each time the wax gets a film on top, scrape it with the fork. You will do this until the wax is cool, but not set. The wax will get lumpy, but it will still be pliable. As the wax starts to lump have each child place heaping spoonfuls on top of their colored cupcake, this will look like frosting. After the cupcakes have been "iced" have each child sprinkle the heart shaped confetti on top and press lightly to make them stick. You can leave the cupcake in the metal paper, or you can peel off the metallic layer and you are left with the white waxed paper layer. This will make it appear that there is no wrapper on the cupcake, and you will be able to see the colored and the white layer through the sides of the wrapper. If you are going to leave the metal paper on then using colored wax is not necessary.
