Food allergies are very common in children. Sometimes when a child is allergic to a certain item he or she will exhibit certain symptoms which will be immediately apparent, such as difficulty breathing, wheezing, and swelling. But there are some symptoms that are not necessarily apparent because the allergy is not severe.
There are some children that exhibit some symptoms outside the norm. For example, some children will complain of itchy throats or tongue and continually make grunting noises as they try to clear their throats. Sometimes this can be a result of a fruit allergy or some substance that is used on fruits. Some of my children have this reaction to many food department fruits, like , kiwi, peaches, and other fruits. My son no longer eats several fruits as a result.
Other times a child may have some other problems that may indicate food allergies, such as dry rings around the mouth from allergies to juice or some other item. Some children may have stomachaches and diarrhea to other food items.
Some children may break out in hives. These are skin lesions that can appear on parts or most of the body. They may dry out as the offensive food is taken away. But hives may be the first set of symptoms. It may progress to swelling and respiratory malfunctions.
There are many ways that the body can react to an allergic substance. Some instances are very unusual. Parent have to be alert when introducing new foods to youngsters. They have to be adventurous, but also observe child's physical reactions. Most foods are innocent, but there are some cases where allergies can occur.
