Bostonians should definitely be excited about the upcoming season. The Celtic faith-
ful have a team that will generate serious noise in the NBA not seen since the likes
of Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, and Robert Parish. But let's be clear-the Celtics can
reach the Finals in the mediocre Eastern Conference but will not win a NBA title.

I'll give you five reasons right off the bat:San Antonio,Dallas,Phoenix,Houston ,and
Utah. The Western Conference is just too tough and experienced for any team in the
East to win a title. Even the bottom rung playoff-potential teams like Denver,Golden
State, and the two L.A.'s will have certain advantages in experience and chemistry
that Boston does not have yet.

Make no mistake about it. The Celtics will be a force to reckon with. And every other
contender in the East should be worried. But the Celtics lack depth and a proven point guard, two key components in a true championship team. If they can address these issues reasonably, another banner may be in the future. Until then, at least
the basketball fans in New England can finally have something to brag about to
Patriot and Red Sox fans.
