The Best Day Of My Life
I remember it vividly. I walked through the door to find my father deep in thought. He looked different, .Older. Weaker. I suppose in my mind he was still superman. When I looked at him, I didn't see the man that was there, I saw the man I had always looked up to and admired. The man who had been my hero, my idol. When I looked at my father I saw the man who had dried my tears when Id cried, picked me up when I fell, held me when I was afraid. But now, in this second, that illusion is gone. He looks up at me, he is confused, he needs my help.
This is the man who has always known what to say, he has guided me through life and the many troubles and complications along the way, he has always been the man who knows what to do. As I sit down at the table beside him, I feel the dynamic between us change. The balance of power has tipped in my favor. He feels it too. Now he needs me. I am the one who knows what to do. I am the man who knows what to say.
Later, when I am alone, I realize that I understand the world better than my father does. I am more accomplished, more knowledgeable. I am younger, stronger. It occurs to me that I have outgrown my father. There is nothing left for him to teach me, nothing that he can do that I cant do better. I am more. I am better. This is the greatest day of my life!
The worst day of my life
Same day.
