What you should know about lager beers

some travellers taking this style of beer over to Mexico it continues to be quite a popular style of lager brewed there and in some parts of South America. It has a copper colored appearance with a sweet, slightly malty, taste to it, and as with most lagers it has a crisp clean bite.

The most famous and widely drunk of all the lagers is the Pilsner. It was developed relatively late compared to the former two styles of lager, in 1842, but has proved the more resilient. Indeed, nearly all pale lagers sold worldwide today are based on this Pilsner version of lager. Like the Vienna, it gets its name from the town in which it was developed, Plzen, in the Czech Republic, and the majority of the difference that the pilsner holds to that of the other two styles of lager is gained from the more pure, softer waters, of the Plzen region. It is of a light color, with a very distinct hop flavor to it and a highly carbonated texture. The best of the Pilsners will also have a touch of a metallic aftertaste to them, such as the Pilsner Urquell. Meaning Original Pilsner in Czech, from the country in which it is made, it is as its name suggests, still considered by many today as the very best example of a perfect pilsner lager, and it is just the place to start when getting to know the lager style of beer.
