Hey did you hear what Paris Hilton did yesterday? Oh, it was crazy! And I bet you saw what Lindsay Lohan was wearing at that restaurant right? Those Hollywood types are nuts! Ok, I can't even come up with more then a couple sentences without putting a stop to this, but I am sure you have seen or heard these types of things said about celebrities pretty much every day. Why? No really, I need someone to tell me why?!?!
The basic idea of being celebrity curious makes sense to me. They have money, immense popularity and for the most part are better looking then we are. We want to live vicariously through them. We want to see them dining at the top restaurants (and not having to pay) or spending a month at an exclusive, elite resort in the Mediterranean. It's cool to play that age old game of "what-if". What if I were known world-wide. What if I could make $20 million or more for acting in a movie. But the funny thing is, we also want to know that our favorite celebrities hit the drive-thru for the occasional Big Mac. Or that they like to kick back with a Bud Light and yell at the TV while watching football on a Sunday afternoon. This all makes sense. We like the movies, music and TV shows they make so we want to know a little more about them. Unfortunately the whole celebrity thing has gone way beyond simple curiosity.
I have always been kind of a pop culture guy, keeping up with current movies, music or TV shows along with the celebrities involved. I used to watch Entertainment Tonight on occasion just to feel like I was getting the inside scoop on what my favorite celebs are up to when they aren't "working". But the days of the American public being entertained simply by interviews of their favorite actors and rock stars at some charity event are long gone. Today it has to be shocking, controversial, scandalous or even criminal to get our attention. I am sure most of you would agree the whole Paris Hilton jail thing was absolutely ridiculous. As much as it amused me to know she was spending time behind bars, when she was released I was thrilled that she was getting out because I figured we'd finally stop hearing her name all day, every day. And I was right, she has kept to herself the last month or so and because of that we haven't been subjected to the media slapping us in the face with her daily routines. Fortunately there is always another young star or starlet just waiting to take up the slack.
The thing that really gets me is how much they pick on the physique
