destiny
I drape my arm across your back and
Pull you closer to me to where you
Gaze at me and I gaze at you
And there's a world between
That our minds alone create.
And as if one person- we crook our lips
And laugh in the still night-
We make our escape from the rules of the game
To that place where joy can be found in
A hand a finger a gently caressing mouth.
Our bodies fit together, boy-
It's like we are two curves of wood or ocean waves
That curl into each other's spirits
And lay down to sleep in the exhausting beyond.
And I don't know why but
Each look is like a heady breath of air-
The first in eighteen years of living without life-
And in that smile I seem to see
a promise of lullabies and butterfly wings
Painted on a wall to draw us in.
We are so different yet in you I see a kinship
I think I've been missing all my life and
As strange as it seems you seem to
Flow around my edges and fill in my holes and
Make me more than I used to be-
I take in the life you give me while
Kissing me deep and taste my own future
When I reach out to tussle your hair-
And perhaps we are each other's cure to
lives without- perhaps we are the antidote to this
venom each day breeds within our bellies and
if we are I want to drink you in- I want to
pull every part of you into myself until we are
one body of light pulsing beyond the spheres
to where unseen stars look to find us
in the playing brightness of a streetlight-
where I cradle your head in my arms.
