was upload it and then open the index page in my browser and I could then follow the set-up instructions. The uploading went fine but when I opened the index page to start the installation process all I got was a blank page on the first screen of the installation and it wouldn't go any further than that. It seems that not all PHP is equal. Simple PHP Blog recommends that you have PHP 5 or at least PHP 4.1 as a minimum. My server runs PHP 4, so I assume that was what the problem was although I really don't know. It was back to Google to search again.
My long search ended when I found Pivot. Like Simple PHP Blog all you do is upload the files to your server and then open the index page. It then guides you through the settings. And it worked! Woo hoo! Not the five minutes I was hopeful of at the beginning. In fact it took me three evenings of searching, reading, uploading and shouting at the computer but I got there.
Of course once the software is installed that is only the start of the work, but it is the end of the tedious bit. I've been able to use my bit of knowledge with html and editing scripts to make some nice changes to the template. I hope Pivot doesn't mind being my fourth choice. I would like to make up for that now by recommending it to everyone as being easy to install and modify.
