Reflections on being a Toronto Maple Leafs fan

Reflections Of Being a Leafs Fan

Being A Canadian, Ice hockey is my countries national game, and many people are very passionate about this sport. For myself this game has played a big part of my life. Having played the game quite competitively, as a boy up until high school, and then in different forms throughout my adulthood, and I still play when I can today. I like to watch the game on TV, and I have participated in hockey pools over the years since high school.

And it was my participation in hockey as a boy that introduced me to my passion in life health and fitness and weight training.
I was born in Toronto in 1966, and spent time as a boy in Maple Leaf Gardens. I even had the wonderful honor as boy of 11-12years old of playing on the Maple Leaf Gardens ice surface and my team won in the King Clancy annual tournament. I even have a relative who played for the Leafs during the Sittler, MacDonald, Salming, and Tiger Williams era.
And anyone who is a Toronto Hockey fan knows very well, when the last time this team won Hockey's Holy Grail the Stanley Cup.
As a boy my allegiance changed due to frustration and I became a Montreal Canadiens Fan, which is one of hockey's largest rivalries. And then as a young boy my family moved to Edmonton for a few years before the emergence of Wayne Gretzky but I did get to see the Great one a few times but moved back to Toronto before the Oilers went on their five an a row run.
Unfortunately the Former owner of the Leafs Harold Ballard's legacy is what caused me to change which team I cheer for. So I think I have had great opportunities to watch and observe great players and teams. So needless to say, now living in British Columbia home of the Canucks and not living that close to a major NHL arena the last game I saw was between the Canucks and the team I hate the most the Bruins which was before GM Place was built, and for me a very lack luster experience. The biggest joy I get with respect to watching hockey live, is junior hockey and the younger ambassadors of the game.

I like to think of myself as a loyal sports fan and almost all of the teams I cheer for in different sports are teams I have stayed with since I was a boy. I am not a band wagon jumper, just to help put it into perspective in the NFL I cheer for the Pittsburgh Steelers, in the NBA my first favorite is the Boston Celtics and new second favorite is the Toronto Raptors, in the MLB first favorite is the Toronto Blue Jays
