How to design effective business cards

Your business card may be your best chance to make a good first impression. A professional looking and attractive business card that contains the appropriate amount of information can impress prospective clients.

If you have a logo, use it. People tend to remember visual images, so even if they don't remember the name of your company immediately, they might remember your logo (this is a good reason to incorporate your company name into your logo). Avoid cute little kitties and puppies (unless you're a pet-groomer). This is business.

While cutesy catchphrases can also help customers remember you, limit this kind of thing on your business card to leave room for necessary items such as thorough contact information. There's nothing worse than missing the call once the customer finally makes it.

Use the space on your business cards wisely, just as you would when having a sign or other advertisement made. Do not crowd the face of the card with too much copy. If you feel that additional information is imperative, choose two-sided cards or those that open to reveal a second page of copy.

While you can design and print your own business cards, make sure you use quality materials if you decide to do so. Today, there are so many options that you may find business card printers are very competitive. It may be worth your while to have your cards professionally printed instead of making your own.
