very silent again. We had now been on "our way home" for about three hours! We stood there staring at each other, not knowing what else to do, when we once again saw the pickup truck at the fork in the road they had gone down. It was dark but they had those big spotlights. Somehow, I guess we were yelling loud enough and the truck turned in our direction.
The truck was piled with 4 or 5 teenage boys and a couple of girls. They could obviously see our plight, and one of the boys got the flat tire off in about two minutes! In another three minutes, the spare tire was in place and we were about to continue on our way, when one of the kids asked me where we were going. When I told him we were going home to Camas - which should have taken us about 40 minutes, he chuckled and said we were going in the complete opposite direction and if we kept going we would have ended up in Eastern Washington!
By the time we got home from "the wedding" it was 4:00 a.m.! My daughter and I had had an adventure we certainly had not planned on. We had also climbed to an altitude of 4800 feet!
I don't know if I should put this story in another category because I firmly believe that I am being watched over by a Guardian Angel, God, and/or The Universe! If my car hadn't gotten a flat tire, I would have continued heading deeper and deeper into the wilderness. I would have run out of gas, for sure. If the pickup truck full of kids hadn't come along, we would still be trying to get the flat tire off, And, no one would have told us we were going in the wrong direction! I would have also missed some incredible bonding time with my daughter!
