Salaries should be related to what each person brings to the workplace not on the gender of the person earning it. Those who advocate equal pay for women and men in the workplace neglect to consider that such a law is discriminatory in itself. The gender of the employee should make no difference whatsoever. The race of the employee should make no difference. Nor should the age of the employee or the religion.
The equal pay argument is no different than the affirmative action argument. That discrimination is ok as long as it benefits the "right" groups...the group supported by that particular person.
No, our companies should not be forced to pay more to one group or pay less to another. Pay should be based upon merit and merit alone.
In general I am against any kind of law that attempts to promote the interests of one racial, ethnic, gender or religious group in preference of another. Such laws do not help anything at all. They are just another form of discrimination and should be prohibited. The general principles on which this country are that every person is equal under the law. Everyone has the same rights. Promoting one group at the expense of another is just plain wrong.
