Pick the best doctor

It is a clear warning sign that they may be overworked and over stressed. It can lead to wrong information getting into your medical file. The last thing you want is Mr. Jones dementia being listed in your medical file and getting to your insurance company. Or having a mental disorder showing up if your insurance doesn't cover it. It's not so easy to get wrong information out of your medical files once it's in there. I have had it in mine and know plenty of people who have had similar experiences. You may get your medical board to change it, but your insurance company has it and it's in their database, probably the billing database of your clinic, the hospital and a number of other places by the time the insurance company has been billed. Make sure that any doctor you see is clear, concise and uninterrupted during your visit. And if there are interruptions; repeat your information and ask to see what was written. Better yet, check your medical files regularly.

Having allergies to many chemical medications, I have a preference for herbs, so finding a doctor that will work with me in the use of herbal medications, along with traditional pharmaceuticals is an absolute must. In KY, this is almost impossible. It has been a virtual uphill battle for me. My last doctor was born and raised in the mountains and his mother brought him up on herbs, so he was open-minded enough to work with me. My present physician is from the Philippines, and her Mother used herbs, so she is open-minded. But, I find that many physicians today are rather narrow-minded about the use of herbs and will just shake their heads or say "I don't know", when you ask what else you can do if you are allergic to everything they have to offer. In my opinion, "I don't know", coming from a physician is just not something to take money for from a patient or their insurance company.

If you can locate a good holistic or integrative physician and can afford their services; then do so. Unfortunately, all states do not have easy access to these specialists and they are not usually covered by insurance. Hopefully, with enough people demanding better healthcare, we may someday see hospitals and clinics fully staffed with integrative physicians and staff. For now, they are few and far between largely because of narrow-mindedness and prejudice.

While you don't want to travel ridiculous distances to see a doctor, especially if you're not feeling well; sometimes, it's best just to see a good doctor who cares. you also need a good one connected with a good hospital if you can find one. This poses a whole other problem, but it is not impossible to locate both. Keep your hopes up and never stop the search. They are out there.
