Organizing your home and your life

How can yousail through your day without the mess and clutter getting in your way?

The first thing you need to realize is that you must walk before you can run.

You need to work on the most disabling area of your home first. This, if it is not being kept workable, is usually the kitchen. You should start by clearing off the stove and counter tops and scrubbing them along with the sink. In doing this, you are beginning to to take back control. If the dishes are in the way, start with them. A full sink is not going to improve the look of your kitchen, so wash and put them away first. If a small appliance is not used at least twice a week, put it away. Unused things on the counters will only make the area harder to keep clean. Using a spray cleaner will make the surface cleaning go faster than trying to soap the counters and wipe them down. Clean them and than buff them with a dry towel. If you need to clean the stove top, do it well and apply a sheer coat of spray furniture wax to make it easier to keep clean. Wipe the spray wax off well with a dry paper towel to avoid having the wax burn on. There should be no wet spots of spray wax left on the stove top, just shine. Once the whole area is clean you will be able to better maintain order. This is just your first day, do not try to do it all at once. You deserve congratulations, you are on your way to improving your home. Look at that kitchen shine.

The second day you need to get after the kitchen floor. Pick up all of the furniture, turn the chairs up onto the table top, get the trash can and pet's bowl off the floor. Now, sweep that floor, get up all the bits that will be in the way when you mop. Only after a good sweeping can you do a great job with a mop on the kitchen floor. Fill your bucket, or if you are like me you can use the sink with the drain closed, it is going to be cleaned shortly anyway, right? Use hot water and a good strong soap. I often add dish washing machine powder to my floor wash water, it cuts the grime fast. Go over the floor once to remove the dirt, than change out the water and do it again to rinse. I like to add a cup of vinegar to my rinse water as it removes the soap residue and leaves a nice clean shiny floor. Now you need to clean and buff that sink it should be easy after the soaking you gave it with the floor washing. There, now step back, admire your shiny fresh kitchen. Keeping it clean will be easy now, wash the sink, counter tops and stove daily. Do the floor weekly, or
