Commentary: Nicole Richie and her 82 minutes in jail

Is it really surprising to anyone that Nicole Richie spent less than 2 hours in jail for drunk driving? It's just another case of a celebrity getting a slap on the wrist for something that they should be seriously punished for. Why bother even sending them to court if there's no intention of giving them the punishment they really deserve - to me it's just a waste of our tax money.

There's something wrong with our legal system when money and status takes precedence over justice. I mean, isn't that what's going on with these celebrity cases? It seems like there is a special law for the rich and famous that allows them to do what they want without paying the consequences. I'm sure that if I had of been arrested instead of Nicole or Paris or Lindsay, I would have been made to serve my full sentence without any special privileges.

Nicole, Lindsay, Paris, Britney.....I'm tired of hearing about them all. They don't need all of this publicity - they need to pay for their crimes just like everyone else. Letting them off easy isn't discouraging them from making the same mistakes again. Please, please take them out of the spotlight and give them the legal attention they rightly deserve!
