New movies you really should see

There are several new movies out that you really should see, especially if you are a science fiction or action fan. In no particular order, here are some.

THE INVASION
A space shuttle crashes. Soon humans are being infected by an intelligent virus in the wreckage. REM sleep triggers a transformation in people who have the disease, causing them to lose their humanity. As the infection spreads, fewer and fewer people can be trusted. This much maligned movie, based on "The Invasion of the Body Snatchers", is the best of the three remakes. It succeeds more as a science fiction/action film than as a horror movie.

RUSH HOUR 3
"Rush Hour 3" is the best of the series. A perfect combination of action and comedy, this energetic movie features stunts that are impressive and a screenplay that is funny. Even Chris Tucker is tolerable this time. And the chemistry between Tucker and Chan is at its best. Chan, one of my favorite actors, specializes in karate with a smile, charisma and agility.

THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM
Jason Bourne travels to three continents to find the man who turned him into a ruthless assassin. "The Bourne Ultimatum" is action-packed from beginning to end. Matt Damon is a great action hero and Julia Stiles seems to get more beautiful every year. They star in an epic tale that sweeps us from Paris to London, from Madrid to Tangier, and finally New York. My only request: drop the hand-held camera technique; it gives some of us motion sickness.

HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX
Harry Potter is unable to convince his classmates at Hogwarts Academy that the evil Lord Voldemort has returned. The screenwriter and director have turned J.K. Rowling's longest book into a lean, mean movie. Daniel Radcliffe continues his march toward superstardom, and Emma Watson is cute and spunky as Hermione. As usual, the visual effects are dazzling, especially Harry and company's broomstick flight over London. Because of intense violence and scary images, I suggest that parents not take children under thirteen to see this.

TRANSFORMERS
"Transformers " is a movie that fans of the eighties toys, girls in love with Shia Labeouf, and science fiction fans will love. This combination "Independence Day", "Small Soldiers" and "Holes" works very well despite the long running time. Labeouf still makes me think of his annoying character on "Even Stevens" but after "Suburbia" and "Transformers", I have to admit he is a pretty good actor. Megan Fox plays a beautiful alpha female. Add to that Josh Duhamel and Tyrese Gibson as tough Air Force Special Ops commandos, and you have quite a cast.
