- There are an astonishing number of strapless gowns on the market- and many women who love the gowns, but would prefer something- anything- other than strapless. Adding straps or a bolero jacket, a flowing shawl or a cowl neckline, even altering the neckline itself, is all perfectly doable.
- If you love the full-skirted look but would prefer something a little more sophisticated, wonders can be worked with bustling. It is wonderfully feminine, and provides the opportunity for personalization in everything from the overall shape to all the little details that hold it in place.

- You also have to remember that you don't necessarily have to get a white gown. Pure white gowns tend to look stunning against darker, richer skin tones, while very soft, colored white look best on the paler tones, but you can also go in for rich, shimmering golds or champagnes, innocent pastels, or a total deviation from the white gown with a darker, lustrous color.
- If your wedding inspiration is drawn from a particular culture, religion, or celebration- anything that has its own symbols and visual iconography- a graphic artist can take those symbols and abstract them into a gorgeous design just for your event, that can certainly be applied to your dress in some way.
- There is no shame in finding the absolute perfect gown on your own, one that you feel already is a perfect expression- on a generous budget you can access the astonishing variety provided by couture wedding designers, though there are gorgeous and less expensive options provided in dresses that are not technically wedding-wear.
- And remember, the possibilities for personalization do not run out at the dress itself. The veil is the most obvious next step, but accessories- gloves, jewelry, shoes, what you choose to carry down the aisle- can all be outlets in that expression of self as you walk down the aisle.
