"This Piece of Paper"
If this piece of paper
Was to suddenly catch on fire
Would you continue to read
If you knew its meaning would inspire?
Do you struggle
To learn what is unknown?
Or do you just ignore it
Like asking why a king deserves his throne?
Would you break a piece of glass
Just to see it shine?
Would you pick the pieces up?
Or would you find your reflection and say "That piece is mine"?
Do you look through your doorway
As an entrance or an escape?
Or do you simply say
That it's just another hollow shape?
And if this paper was burning up quick
Would you leave it to burn like a candle wick?
Would you read it faster and try to finish?
Or would you leave its lesson, its meaning, and its feelings to just diminish?
If someone has a heart of gold
Can their blood still run cold?
And if that heart was to be put on hold
Would it become another story wrongfully told?
Would that lesson learned
Be able to help the unconcerned?
And if that person ever returned
Would their soul be for ever burned?
Karma can only get you so far
It's up to you to become a bright star.
So the next time you look at a scar,
Honestly ask yourself who you are.
And if that answer
Just happens to make you sad
Then change it for good
Because if you don't now, you're going to wish you had.
So if this piece of paper
Was to actually burn
Are you glad you read it now?
Or would you still search for that lesson to learn?

For the first time in my life,
I know I came up short,
but it doesn't affect me.
Out of sight, out of mind.
It wasn't a complete
I searched for answers
but found more questions.
I searched for freedom
and found more chains.
I searched for happiness
and found
