The U.S. Patriot Act does NOT undermine American's freedoms! The only real reason why people think it does is because of their "sneak and peak" techniques that allow them to listen in on SUSPECTED individuals. They are not listening in on random people's conversations, as the media will have you believe. And even if they were, you're not going to get arrested UNLESS you're talking about a planned TERRORISM attack, and that is it!
A friend of mine, who is a Marine Scout sniper currently deployed in Iraq, told me that him and his fellow soldiers APPRECIATE the U.S. Patriot Act, along with the National Coast Guard, because it gives them the confidence that their friends and family back home are being protected from the same forces that they're fighting half-way across the World.
On top of that, if someone is ACTUALLY worried about the government listening in on their conversations, then maybe that person should rethink their life's activities.
The U.S. Patriot Act protects us Americans by investigating into suspected individuals. Why you may ask? BECAUSE IT'S BETTER KNOWING ABOUT A TERRORIST ATTACK BEFORE IT HAPPENS INSTEAD OF FINDING OUT ABOUT IT AFTERWARD! Especially considering the current rise in "Home-grown terrorists."
But go ahead and complain that the U.S. Patriot Act is a horrible creation for "invading" our privacy. Keep saying every ignorant and negative comment you can say about it. Keep complaining until they FINALLY get rid of the U.S. Patriot Act. Then what are you going to say when all the terrorists currently residing in America decide to attack, since the government was no longer allowed to investigate in suspected individuals, as the U.S. Patriot Act instructs them to do.
