Memoirs: What my dog means to me

Snickers came into my life after the death of my husband's Boxer, Tequila. One of my friend's at work had "accidentally" bred her Pomeranian/Corgi male and her mini American Eskimo. She knew we had lost our dog and said I could have one of her 7 puppies. I went to see them and fell in love with the little runt of the litter. He staggered toward me and licked my hand and that was it. He was mine. I would go visit him before I brought him home at 12 weeks so he would know me. After I brought him home I would let him out before I went to bed and again early in the morning because he could not "hold it" all night. This was in December and I probably made a funny looking sight with my winter coat over my PJs with this little fluff dog on a leash in the cold snow but it was our bonding time and I enjoyed it.

My husband was away a lot working and was not that happy about me getting another pet but I needed something to tend to. It was just Snickers and me for quite a while. He would follow me from room to room as I got ready for work and would be there for me when I came home. He is now almost 2 years old and still follows me every morning as I get ready.

Now my husband is back home but Snickers still won't let him let him out, but waits for me to come home. He is truly "my" dog. His favorite thing is to grab a toy and bring it to me and put it in my lap to throw so he can fetch it. He will paw at my hand until I throw it for him. When he sees me change from my work clothes he knows we are going for a walk and barks and races downstairs so I can put his leash on. Then we go out for our stroll.

He is my companion and always tries to cheer me up if I am down by lying with me on the couch or jumping in my lap and giving me kisses. I cannot imagine not having him now and enjoy his company very much. He gives me unconditional love and who could ask for more than that?
