Flirtation 101

TOP 10 FLIRTING CLUES FOR MEN

A common misconception is that women don't enjoy making the first move or are less likely to be the "pick up artist." This is simply not true. The truth is, women are often the ones to send out those first signals to a man that say she's available, checking him out, and is inviting him to approach her. With few exceptions, most women are simply much more subtle in their flirting technique than men are and if you're not paying attention, you'll miss the signals she's sending out to you. If you're lucky (and she's interested enough) she may keep trying to flirt with you until you wake up and get a clue. If you're unlucky, she'll misread your inattention as a sign that you're not interested in her and will quietly move on. That's a missed opportunity and a shame for both of you.

If you're a guy who's unaccustomed to getting a lot of attention from women and believe you are the one who always has to make the first move, it's probably because you're just not picking up on those subtle flirtations that are directed at you. It can be a bit tricky, and this is by no means a comprehensive list, but here's my list of 10 signs that a woman is flirting with you:

1. Watch her eyes. When a woman gives you more eye attention than usual, she's letting you know that she thinks you're worth looking at and is interested. If she looks you straight in the eye during introductions and handshakes, she's VERY interested.

2. Watch her body language. Does she suddenly cross her legs, sit up straighter, or seem to be "posing" when you look at her? Does she smile and then quickly look away? She's interested. If she smiles and takes more than few seconds before looking away, she's VERY interested.

3. Space Invasion. A woman will often narrow the distance between her and the man she's flirting with. If she was across the room when you first saw her and she is now standing within talking distance, she's interested. If she's moved in next to you at the bar or has taken a seat close to you, she's VERY interested.

4. Affectations. These are the little repeated mannerisms that a woman will often start to exhibit when she is flirting with you. These are things like flipping her hair back with her hand, frequently brushing her bangs from her eyes, laughing more often, smiling more, or lowering her voice to a sexier tone.

5. Casual Touching. A woman who is actively flirting will lightly touch your arm as she talks to you, as if to impress a point. She may "accidentally" bump
