Vitamin B12 is one of the many in the B vitamin complex. It contains the metal cobalt and is referred to as cobalmin. B12 is necessary for the rapid synthesis of DNA and is therefore in high demand in the marrow of our bones where the production of red blood cells occurs.
It is responsible for the maintenance and repair on the nervous system. B12 plays an important role in the proper growth and development in children. Deficiency in this important vitamin can cause anemia, signified by excessive tiredness, breathlessness, and a general feeling of lethargy.
Due to vitamin B12's low toxicity, high intakes are considered harmless. The dietary recommendation for adults is 1.5 nanograms. To find out more information I would suggest consulting my source ( www.vegsoc.org/info/b12).
