There is no doubt that my six-year-old son is obsessed with dinosaurs and all prehistoric creatures - as he has been for at least a year now. If you're reading this article, then I guess there's a good chance you have a little fellow who exhibits the same sort of fanatical behaviour as mine does. So read on, have a chuckle as you relate to my account - and marvel at how epidemic this condition is!
It was the TV series, "Prehistoric Park" which tipped my lad over the edge from mild enthusiast to passionate devotee of this subject. He lived from one episode to the next and, when it was finished he suffered withdrawal symptoms till he received the DVD set for Christmas. Then he watched it over and over and over again till he knew all the details of the plot, the characters, their alter-egos, the prehistoric creatures featured - and even where every episode was filmed.
As for Nigel Marven, he was honoured for some time as one of his favourite people - up there with Mummy and Daddy and his sister! Mind you, I guess we should feel privileged to be in such fine company and hope Nigel Marven didn't mind sharing the spotlight with us.
Then at the beginning of this year he found out that a new series about prehistoric creatures was coming to Australian TV a few months hence. So he began looking up everything he could find about "Primeval" on the net. By the time it actually premiered, he already knew just about everything there was to know about it. He was so intimately familiar with the plot that we had to tell him to shush every time he started to give away what was going to happen next while we were watching it. Again, he also was very knowledgeable about all the characters and the actors that played them. Thankfully it wasn't only the prehistoric lizards that he was drawn to - he knows a pretty face when he sees one too and fancied Abby so much he had her alter-ego's website on his favourites list!
Again, he lived from one episode to the next. Saturday night was the focus of his week and for the seven days between he would be continually talking about how he couldn't wait for the time to pass till the next instalment.
Now I have never been a fan of dinosaurs myself. I can only say I'm extremely thankful there aren't any still around! The only dinosaur I remember from my childhood is Dino from "The Flintstones". Yet, after the first episode or two of "Prehistoric Park" I started to get involved myself. Then, when "Primeval" came on, I had set my husband the task of watching
