One of the pre-requisite for an internet business is to have a website. However, it is not easy for any layman to simply have a professional, attention-grabbing website.

Hence, one of the ways to kick start us in internet business is to join affiliates. The main reason being that affiliate programs normally comes with free websites. These websites are not only professionally designed but they worded correctly to attract the type of customers you are seeking. Your only role would then be how to attract customers to your site.

While this has its advantage of taking away the pain of designing and copy writing, it's main disadvantage is that you share the same look and feel with a few tens of thousands of other members. Most probably, all of you will be advertising in the same space. Hence, what is the percentage that your site is likely to capture the customer who is seeing the same advertisement over and over again but by different members?

Another solution would therefore be to design your own website but host it for free with sites like geocities, yahoo, bravenet and many more. This method gives you a little more freedom in what you would like to have in your site. You will find that most would offer you several templates, again, taking away the difficulty of designing. However, you are now responsible for your own copy writing. This could be tough especially if are you not good in the language. Poor grammar normally turns a potential customer away. Another disadvantage of this free website is that you do not have your own domain name. Your domain name will always carry the hosting companies name.

There are many thoughts about using free websites versus websites that you pay for hosting and for your own domain name. Like many other types of ventures, the norm is that if you cannot invest, then it is rather unlikely that you will make it big. There may be exceptions to this rule, and the question is then are you the exception?
