How to tell if your house is haunted

are things you should know, first of all is what a haunting is and isn't.

There are two commonly known types of hauntings a residual haunt and an intelligent haunt.

A residual haunt is an emotional tattoo in time. An event that plays over and over and over. Like an individual going through their daily routine. These haunts cannot hurt you, they cannot interact with you, they are not actual ghosts or souls just a tattoo in time. You cannot influence them in anyway nor can they influence you. These are the haunts that are most likely to occur in a home or environment where there was an emotional attachment. Good or bad.

My Victorian had a residual haunt that involved doors being opened all day but stopped at night. We kept the doors closed to keep the dogs out of rooms we didn't want them in and from drinking out of the toilets. My home office was also in that house and I had one employee whose sole job was to go around all four floors all day long and close doors and kick dogs out of rooms they shouldn't be in. We even video taped doors to see if the dogs or other employees were opening them. Low and behold not to our surprise the doors were seen to be opening on their own. We learned to live with it and upped our employees pay.

An intelligent haunt is the thing Hollywood is made of. These are extremely rare and often are not malicious. An intelligent haunt is a ghost. An actual entity that makes contact and can react to you and around you. It knows your there and you can interact with it. We often catch these haunts on video or audio by asking them to interact with us and they do in specific patterns that we request. Many of these are individuals who for whatever reason have not passed on. Some may have jobs to do some may not realize they are gone but seldom are these haunts dangerous.

Many individuals fear the term haunting because they do not understand what it means. My advice to anyone who thinks they might have a haunting in their home is to contact a local group of paranormal investigators. These investigators should never charge for their services. Legitimate investigators do what they do for research purposes and should attempt to debunk a haunting rather then set out to prove one. Proving a haunting is dangerous as it leads to assumptions that may be false. False assumptions and declarations of hauntings where there aren't any breed fear and can have adverse effects on individuals health, mental well being and the property value of their home. Debunking
