Memoirs: Depression

Happiness resides just above as the air to the vast sea of depression. Tho' not landed, there is much company adrift.

Some claim light empowers them to walk on the sea. However, they fool no one; likely not even themselves.

Some claim hearing words keep heads above water. Try, go, push . . . Alas, words are words, not actions.

Some claim artificial buoyancy is the way. Addiction is but one consequence.

Do they not see the sea?

One does not defy nature, but merely survives at nature's will.

Adrift, the answer lies not in the words or the prophet, nor the cheerleader, nor the doctor. Adrift, the answer lies with the advice of the lifeguard: float face down as the dead man, lifting one's head for an occasional deep breath of fresh air while awaiting land or raft.

More sensible, so it seems, than to pretend, tread, or bob.
